genetically modified foods

What are Genetically Modified Foods (GM)?
Unlike normal methods of reproduction, genetic modification takes place in the laboratory. It can involve genes of totally unrelated living things, eg. a fish and a tomato being cut, transferred and joined together.
As a result a combination of genes are produced that would never occur naturally.

If in doubt, leave GM out
Iceland believes it's just not worth taking the risks associated with genetically modified foods, neither does it think that you, the public, should become the unwitting guinea pigs in a massive and potentially dangerous experiment.

Iceland and Genetically Modified Foods
As long ago as 1988 Iceland became the worlds first food brand to remove all genetically modified ingredients from its products and now everyone is claiming to follow our lead.
Iceland has a team of technical experts travelling the globe to source non-GM crops, they also ensure systems are in place to segregate crops and that ingredient sources are regularly checked. In addition, products are regularly tested by Iceland and its suppliers to ensure that they can maintain their stance.
